The Joy of Diligent Climbing

This is a really good natured, steady paced acoustic piece with a few flourishes. The title was what came to mind when I thought about what the song evoked- in life, or in mountaineering, if you are willing to persist, follow through with obligations, do your duty, then overall it's a positive and enjoyable journey.

Joy is an interesting concept too- compared to happiness, which is fleeting and depends on the right circumstances or getting what you want, joy comes from living the right way and like serenity can be experienced regardless of what's going on in your life.

We Will Prevail

"We will prevail" is an uptempo romp- sort of what if the Rage Against the Machine guitarist had more heart and played acoustic guitar? Sorry to mention that band- this is a completely positive song without any angst!

Not played perfectly, unfortunately, but my style is to write something in about a half hour and record it then, and then to pretty much forget about it. It's because of the forget about it part that I record them so soon after I create them.

Stomp on the Garden

"Stomp on the Garden" is a bluesy soundgarden-ish acoustic number with a deliberate cool guy verse, vexing, anxious bridge and transcendently melodic chorus.

Rainy Day Funk Away

The title is a play on Jimi Hendrix's song, "Rainy Day, Dream Away", because I did this funky, bluesy, soundgardenish guitar improvisation with a rain backdrop. I love it when it rains in San Diego because it's so rare, and I get to do things like this. Nothing like rain for a mood. Brings "Reign O'er Me" by the Who to mind, too, doesn't it?
